KF Flanges and Fabrications
The KF range of flanges and fittings are manufactured from high quality 304L (1.4306) stainless steel*. KF flanges utilize an aluminium clamp with a single wingnut fastener allowing frequent disassembly without tools. The vacuum seal is effected by uniform application of pressure by the clamp on the 15º surface of the flange. The mating flange surfaces compress an “O”-ring (held in place by a metal centering ring) to produce a seal that can be used in vacuum applications down to 10-7 mbar and baked to 200°C (sustained to 150°C).
The ISO standard quick release flange is recognized by different names, including Quick Flange (QF) and Kleinflansch (KF, the German term for "Small flange," translated to English). The KF naming has been used by ISO, DIN, and Pneurop. KF flanges feature a chamfered back surface and are secured with a particular clamp to match the size of the flange, accompanied by an elastomeric o-ring meeting the AS568 specification, housed within a metal centering ring.
Standard sizes are identified by the inner diameter in millimeters, these diameters range from 10 to 50 mm in diameter. Some Sizes that are not commonly used are 10, 20, and 32. Some sizes share their flange dimensions with larger counterparts, using the same clamp size. For instance, a KF10 can be connected to a KF16 by using an adaptive centering ring, and the same principle applies to KF20 to KF25 and KF32 to KF40 connections.
